Favorite Shoes for New Walkers

Favorite Shoes for New Walkers

Does it get any cuter than little adorable baby shoes?  I was so looking forward to putting A in shoes (R loved shoes from her first pair of glittery pedipeds!), and tried when she was about 8 months with some baby UGG boots.  She FLIPPED out and would not let them near her feet. I tried some others and it was all the same…meltdown! I pictured myself with a 2 year old walking around in just socks in the winter… would I ever get shoes on this one? Well, luckily, when she actually started walking (right around when she turned 1), she was no longer afraid of shoes. I eased her into the experience with some FPK moccs, and then it was smooth sailing from there.  All shoes are not created equal… and the right kind of shoes is so important for baby’s developing feet. So we are rounding up our favorite shoes for new walkers below!  Note – although we are sharing girls’ shoes (based on the fact that we both have girls), all brands listed also have shoes for the little men!

Freshly Picked
Reese’s gold Freshly Picked Moccs go with EVERYTHING!

Freshly Picked: Fan-favorite, these moccasins are so very popular and for good reason. I think my favorite part of these shoes was that it was a good “gateway” into actual shoes. Some experts recommend not putting shoes on babies until they are actually walking, and moccs might as well be considered socks due to their comfort. You can get these shoes starting at sizes for newborns and they look fantastic in pictures too.  Make sure to check out their May sale happening now, and you can score a pair for $45!

A wearing her Umi shoes with an outfit from Old Navy.

Umi: This was one of A’s first pairs of shoes and is a brand that we have stayed loyal to already. The shoes are beautifully constructed (moreso than many of my own pairs of shoes). They are durable with adorable designs and also have great padding on the insole. A moves around with such ease in these shoes and the rubber sole has a great grip.  This exact pair is on sale for $42 right now – check them out, they are amazing and go with so many outfits!

Kids Shoes
A with her Pediped shoes and an Osh-Kosh B’Gosh outfit.

Pediped: We’ve featured Pediped a lot, and we are so obsessed with these shoes. When you first see them, your reaction might be that they are: 1) adorable 2) very lightweight and 3) very flexible. At first glance they almost seem like they could be crib shoes, but they are truly so amazing for walking around on any surface. It is very evident that the girls are very comfortable when they wear these, and there are some great “fancy” styles that are built for comfort at the same time.  Win a pair during our Summer Lovin’ giveaway ending tonight!

Stride Rite Sale
Stride Rite’s and Lily Pulitzer. Too Cute!

Stride Rite – Stride Rite’s are the classic shoe that we’re sure you parents remember yourselves wearing!  Our moms are always referencing how we need the girls in a ‘good solid shoe’.  We love the brand because their value holds true, and they have SO many adorable sizes and of course their sales are fantastic!  Reese got these babies for $20 (through a Little List sale of course!) and has been wearing them since it got nice out!

Cienta: These have been a recent mutual favorite of both R & A. They are made in Spain and totally have a chic European vibe. They are classic in style and look kid-ish too. 🙂 You can tell these are very comfortable and the girls move around with such grace in these shoes. They also smell really good… like strawberries!  This is also the style of shoe we could see our girls wearing for the next 5+ years – timeless!

See Kai Run shoes
A wearing her See Kai Run sandals and Hartstrings outfit.

See Kai Run: Another simply adorable brand of shoes that also is built for comfort. We have a pair of these sandals and one of my favorite parts is that they are super easy to put on and take off… they also have a little extra room in them, which will allow for longer use… and have a great flexibility to them.  The shoes are also lightweight and are very easy for a toddler to walk (or run – pun intended!) in. We are big fans!

A wearing her Livie & Luca sandals.

Livie & Luca: These shoes are super sweet with cute bows and designs. We have a pair of both sandals and mary janes, and they both are constructed so well. The soles are a durable rubber and the insoles almost feel like suede. I was unsure about how A would walk in the sandals, but she did with no trouble. Perfect for a special occasion!

Hot pink polka dot sneaks from The Children’s Place and an Offspring outfit!

Children’s Place (for a steal!): Surprisingly enough, we have been beyond thrilled with these sneakers.  We are including them in our round-up because of the price mostly (and the compliments we get!)  This pair of sneaks was just $8 and is perfect for a day at the park.  While not as well constructed as the other shoes we featured, they are a good solid shoe, and we think it is worth keeping an eye out (we’ll help too!) for some shoe steals here.

What are some of your favorite shoe brands?  We’d love to hear!

With love,
